The Wacko WaPo

Or, How to Influence People the Wrong Way.

Cindy Sheehan and her merry band of mischief-makers have pissed off a neighbor. He fired a shotgun into the air, bringing security forces to his home in a hurry. Maybe it scared away a few of the rabble, and maybe not. What matters is Sheehan’s response:

I’m surprised we haven’t had more of that since we’re in Bush country.

Oh really? Then why doesn’t she leave Bush country and go to some whiny blue-state city, like Los Angeles, or San Francisco, or Detroit? I could even show her a couple liberal neighborhoods in Ohio, where nobody ever uses a gun to commit a crime! Well, that is, if you don’t count the gangs, and the rapes, and the muggings.

She is addicted to the media attention, and it has clouded her judgment. What’s worse is that the Washington Post is enabling her addiction with this uncritical parroting. They have both truly lost touch with reality. She belongs in an asylum, and the WaPo belongs in the dustbin of history.

I agree!!! And, to beat it all, I heard that President Bush had ALREADY talked to her one time before! So what is her problem? My heart goes out to her for the loss of her son, but…She really does need to get some mental help of some kind. And, I do believe that she has ‘gotten into’ all this media attention. I think she thinks she’s cute or something…she’s not cute at all. She just comes across as an old lady who is desperate for attention. It also shows who actually ‘works’ for a living in this country. I, and all of my family and friends have to WORK for a living. We can’t just go camp out and waste an entire summer doing nothing. Nor would we want to do what she’s doing. I wish she would go to the Middle East and live for awhile. Then she wouldn’t be so ready to whine about everything here. And, she would see that President Bush is not the evil man that she is saying he is. When there are so many things going on in this country, that she is taking up so much time in the media, is a shame. She obviously cares about herself before anything or anyone else. Cindy, if you read this, please just shut up, go home and get some help.

Well, maybe she IS set for life, in which case, more power to her (bank account).

See how you feel when you lose your son(s) to a pointless war. Get a grip and get rid of those useless right wing thugs that have hijacked yur government.

Jen, I think you need to gain some life experience, re-read your comment and get back to us at a later date.
Do you really, honestly think she thinks she’s cute? Truly? In your heart of hearts?
Please, someone, explain to me with as many details and as much scientific knowledge as can be mustered, why she is being called crazy? Why does she need mental help?
And, frankly, the Bush country comment was probably a little childish, but it is no more so than what has been thrown at her by people who placate and patronize her by saying they “feel” for her or their “hearts go out to her.” Just stop saying stuff like that. Its obviously not true.

Hey mo, reality check: Just who killed Casey Sheehan? Who set the bomb? It was not Bush. If you have a hard time figuring it out, I suggest you check out Iraq the Model, especially his message to Cindy Sheehan. And I dare you to tell him that this war was, in your eloquent words, “pointless.”
Jenny, she (Sheehan) has admitted in interviews that she does not want a meeting with Bush. She claimed it would “disrupt the momentum” of her little shindig. She says she’s demanding a face-to-face with Bush, but then she says she doesn’t want to meet him. Changing your mind is one thing; changing your mind back and forth in such rapid succession implies (to me, anyway) delusions at the very least. No such volatility could ever get a job where I did the hiring.

Jenny, to your first point, Jen said:

I believe she said she didn’t “expect” that the end result would be a face-to-face meeting with Bush, not that she didn’t want one.
I think what she’s getting is far better than a face-to-face. He looks like an arrogant ass (big surprise) and more people every day are questioning his motives.
As far as requesting a second meeting, every journalist is allowed a follow-up question, why not a grieving mother?
And, Bush may not have “set the bomb” himself, he certainly is responsible. I don’t know how that can even be argued. I think its pretty much undisputed that he manufactured the reasons to go to war.
Pointless is the only word for it.

No, she actually said (to Matt Lauer?) that meeting with Bush would be bad for the image they are trying to cast. In other words, meeting her demands (as if she were in any position to make demands) would be the worst thing that could happen to her.
As for Bush “manufacturing” the reasons for war: UNSCR1441. The onus was on Saddam to prove compliance with 12 years of UN resolutions, and he refused. 1441 was just the last straw.
Now, if you are trying to argue that Bush held a gun to the heads of the bombers, and ordered them to bomb his own soldiers, OK, I’ll grant your point. We’ll just return Saddam to where he was, we’ll dig up Uday and Qusay, and re-animate them, and apologize for the whole thing. We’ll hand back the rape rooms and the electrical torture rooms and the lime pits and the iron maiden. Is that what you think we should do?
Please, unless you really think Iraqis want this, drop the old saw about this being “pointless.” The Iraqis bore the brunt of that convoluted “logic” for decades, while Saddam’s apologists did everything they could to justify why he shouldn’t be removed from power.
